Kookaburra sits





Last week I was awoken just before dawn by what sounded like a monkey in a jungle.... !!




Actually, it was a Kookaburra and for those of you who don't live in Australia you might be interested in playing the video link below. It does make me laugh everytime I hear it but it wasn't all that funny so early in the morning. I have to say that it is the first time I have heard a kookaburra here where we live in Melbourne - we are quite near the City although the garden does back onto a small area of rough parkland.

    Blimey and I thought our dawm chorus (a gaggle of magpies) was noisy! Hey let me know if you're going to be in London at all when you're back in the UK - it'd be lovely to meet up.

    Heee,heee that takes me back a 100yrs remember sitting round the camp fire with the girl guides singing that Kookaburra sings in the old Gum tree........

    We have those birds up where we live all the time - I love their cackling call! Much better than being swooped by maggies!

    Great shot Sarah! We lived on the Kuringai Chase National Park in Sydney for a few years and know that chorus well. Never fail, rain or shine, when the sun came out they sang their hearts out...It has been 25 years since and I have to say it is still one of my favourite morning sounds. :)

    I have been away from blogging yet again....for too long. Hope you are well. I look forward to seeing what you have been up to!
