Titfer: A hat (cockney rhyming slang: `tit for tat' rhymes with `hat').

Or, what do they say.... ? "If you want to get ahead, get a hat" or something like that but am not quite so sure how they work that one out!! Anyway, what I was sure about was that my old trusty hat (the very one that I am wearing in my profile pic on the blog) has started to look a little worse for wear and a little bit squished up to say the least... (see brim especially, in the photo above)

So, around a couple of weeks ago, I spied this lovely NEW panama hat when I was out and about on my travels and snapped it up without a seconds hesitation.....

Nice isn't it? And I rather like the colour too.

My old one was much "whiter" ( UK residents will know the quality when I say I picked up my old hat in, wait for it -Primark of all places. For those who don't know of Primark or Primarche as daughter has dubbed it, it's very inexpensive to say the least!!) However, it has served me well under the Australian sun. My new one was a little more expensive, but more than justified I feel.

Fashion experts must think the same as whilst reading the colour supplement from the newspaper here on Saturday, I turned the page and there was "my" hat !! Starring in a line up about the "Urban Safari" trend. How exciting.

Nice to be in first for once!

  2. The hat fits you so well and is very justified to be used in your climate!

  3. That particular style of hat really suits you!

  4. In the words of Rod Stewart, you wear it well.

Something obviously grabbed your attention just as the photographer clicked the shutter: do tell what it was! J x

  5. John, you are going to laugh... it was a moorhen!! They were making strange noises on the lake! Thanks too for the kind comment. x

  6. Cool hat, and so much fun seeing in a magazine after you've purchased it. Picking up early on the trends, there. Not bad!

I have three straw hats - one big floppy 70's-style, and two trilbys. Inspired by your and others pots about hats this summer, so I'm on the lookout for panama hat, too.

  9. I love that picture. I would also love a picture of something floral in your home or garden.

perhaps you can wear the hat while taking the photo?

It's great feeling fashion validated when a much loved item from your wardrobe makes it to a spread in the weekend papers!

  12. I wore one last summer. I've never been one for the old titfer (hat-hair, don't you know!) but I think it'll be coming out again; we're praying for a good summer again.

  13. Click on 'last summer' on the post above for the photographic evidence! Your blog doesn't do links in a separate colour for some reason x

  14. Love the new hat - it looks gorgeous! And so validating to see the good folk at GW hoping on the bandwagon! I wish I could wear hats like that. Alas my unruly mop means they never look good on me. And unfortunately fascinators, which do look good on me, don't provide much sun protection... Best just to stay out of the sun altogether...

  15. Wow, This is my first time visiting your blog and I love what I see! First of all, I have just been diagnosed with "alopecia areata" which is bald spots on the head. Not cool! It is small and I am trating it, but in the meantime I am traveling to Florida soon as a part of an art show and I cannot deal with the worry that my spot will show. It is putting a kink in my neck.

I am off to find this panama hat. It seems to work well with my black traveling clothing as your newspaper displayed some cool looking outfits akin to my look.

Many Thanks to you and I will be a regular visitor.

    Best,
    Debra

  18. Hi Sarah,
It looks like the one I snaffled from Husk in Melbourne on the weekend seeing Sting.
Melbourne does much more superior (FF 2009) hat offerings than what is on offer in Queensland.

  33. "Titfer hat Cockney rhyming slang tit" seems to be a combination of terms and phrases, How Play Games including Cockney rhyming slang. Cockney rhyming slang for "hat."
